MEE of 210 National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries, 2020-21

Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India with vide Letter No. F.No. 21-3/2016 WL-1 dated 15.01.2021 with technical assistance from Wildlife Institute of India has planned to evaluate the 210 National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries through the Management Effectiveness Evaluation (MEE) Process during 2020-21 with the help of 20 Independent Regional Expert Committees in repeat cycle of evaluation.

Online Inception cum Planning Workshop for Management Effectiveness Evaluation (MEE) of 210 National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries in India, 2020-21 on 11th January 2021

An ‘Inception cum Planning Workshop for Management Effectiveness Evaluation (MEE) of 210 National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries in India, 2020-21’ through online mode was organized on 11th January 2021. The objective of the meeting was to initiate the exercise of MEE of 210 PAs during 2020-21. The introductory remarks given by Dr. Dhananjai Mohan, Director WII and opening remarks made by Shri Soumitra Dasgupta ADGF (Wildlife), MoEFCC. During the workshop, Hon’ble MEF has released the MEE Report of 146 PAs evaluated during 2018-19; launched the MEE Framework for Coastal and Marine PAs; and announced the award system from present MEE cycle as incentive to PA managers. Shri Javadekar, Hon’ble MEF expressed his happiness, that India have the 70% of the global tiger population, 70% of Asiatic lions and more than 60% of leopard’s population and their growing numbers shows the well-being of the whole ecosystem. The meeting was attended by Chairpersons, Members of 20 Independent Regional Expert Committees, WII-MEE Faculty representatives and other dignitaries. In the meeting, deliberations on overview of MEE process, operational modalities to undertake MEE exercise of 210 PAs during 2020-21 and demonstration of web-based application system to submit the online MEE data, were made. At the end, it was decided that WII will organize regional online meetings with CWLWs to facilitate the MEE exercise. The meeting was ended with the vote of thanks to all the dignitaries.

Meeting with Chief Wildlife Wardens for evaluation of 210 National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries through Management Effectiveness Evaluation (MEE) Process on 12 February, 2021 at Hotel Lemon Tree, Rishikesh

A meeting under Chairmanship of Shri Soumitra Dasgupta, ADG-WL, MoEFCC and co-chaired by Shri SP Yadav, MS NTCA was held with all the MEE Regional Committee Chairpersons and Chief Wildlife Wardens to work out the details of the site visits and to discuss various issues related to MEE cycle 2019-20 on 12th February, 2021 in Rishikesh.

Director WII, six out of 20 chairman & the concerned WII Faculty member of the Regional Committees attended the workshop physically, rest joined online. Team wise plan was chalked out in coordination with concerned CWLWs, with target of completing the MEE cycle by 31st December 2021. ADG-WL, MOEFCC gave many valuable inputs regarding MEE & PA management to streamline the process. MS NTCA indicated the start of next MEE cycle for Tiger Reserves.

A web portal has been created to submit the evaluation data on MEE and demonstrated in the meeting. Separate login IDs has been created for each Chairperson and emailed them individually. The weblink can be accessed through http://168.63.237.236:90/
