Puntius sophore is distributed throughout India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand and Yunnan (China).

Characteristics, Habitat and Behaviour:

It inhabits plains and submontane regions. A very plentiful shoaling fish, remaining upperciably smaller in the domestic aquarium and becoming mature at 7-8 cm. It attains a length of 13 cm. It is very common in ponds of West Bengal (Dahanukar, 2010).
