Protected Area Network, Wildlife Management and Conservation EducationThis department focuses on planning a network of protected areas in India to provide an umbrella for long-term conservation and management of biodiversity in national parks, sanctuaries and conservation and community reserves within the diverse biogeographic zones of the country. This is achieved through networking with the forest departments, wildlife management and capacity building. People are educated about the ethics of resource use, allocation and protection. The department relies heavily on integrating science and state-of-the-art technologies to achieve its objectives. It takes into consideration both ecological principles and environmental conditions with the aim of balancing the needs of wildlife with the needs of the people.
