As part of the United Nations initiative, the World Ocean Day was first declared at the 'Earth Summit' in Rio de Janerio in 1992. On June 8, 2008, the World Ocean Day was officially designated and celebrated each year henceforth with a different theme. This year's theme is "Planet Ocean: Tides are Changing".
The day is a celebration to raise global awareness regarding the vast oceans that connect us. It gives us a chance to appreciate the ocean's benefits and reminds us to use its resources sustainably.
his is the first time we would celebrate World Ocean Day at the Wildlife Life Institute of India for its community. Thus, we are delighted to share that the CAMPA Dugong Team is organizing an in-house WII activity for this World Ocean Day, 8th June 2023, at the auditorium from 03:00 PM to 05:00 PM.
Online Competitions :
- An open online art competition for all researchers with the theme as "Life underwater"
- A photography competition inviting ocean-related photos
Offline Competitions :
- A quiz competition on 8th June 2023
All the entries for art and photos will be screened on 8th June and the winners will be felicitated.

Also, we will be having a photo exhibition of marine life at the auditorium. All of which have been contributed by our researchers.
