The document is an attempt to showcase the successful Mega-herbivore reintroduction as a part of a collaborative initiative between the Madhya Pradesh Forest Department and Wildlife Institute of India to reverse local extinction and to establish a viable, free ranging population of gaur (Bos gaurus gaurus) in Sanjay Tiger Reserve, Madhya Pradesh. It highlights the key steps carried out during translocation of gaur, including site feasibility assessment, population viability analysis, construction of enclosures, health monitoring of source population, training and drills for capture, the detailed process of capture, as well as the subsequent release and monitoring of reintroduced gaur in Sanjay Tiger Reserve.
