
Dr. Gobind Sagar Bhardwaj, IFS
Dr Gobind Sagar Bhardwaj joined Indian Forest Service in 1994. He has done his Ph.D. from the University of Rajasthan on the topic entitled "Plant Resource Utilization by the avian fauna in Sitamata Wildlife Sanctuary". As a manager of natural resources, he has served in various capacities in different forest divisions of Rajasthan including managing some of the best tiger reserves of the country, Ranthambhore and Sariska Tiger Reserves It is during his tenure in Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve he developed a deep passion for wildlife especially the magnificent tiger. Based on his observations on tiger, he has authored a book on tiger, "Tracking Tigers in Ranthambhore". Later he served as Field Director, Sariska Tiger Reserve.
As Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Jodhpur, he has supervised the various in situ conservation efforts for the conservation of critically endangered Great Indian Bustard under the ambitious program of Project Great Indian Bustard in Thar landscape apart from managing the wilderness Thar Desert. He has also supervised the management and development of biological parks and management of zoos. He is a commission member of IUCN SSC Bustard Specialist Group. Based on his experience in managing Thar landscape, he has also authored a coffee table book Desert National Park: A jewel in the vibrant Thar. During his tenure as scientist in Wildlife Institute of India (2008-2012), he has done extensive survey of Lesser Florican, a bustard species, in its distribution range and also avian faunal survey in trans-Himalayan region. He is the recipient of the State Award in 1999 for outstanding services for the State of Rajasthan. The award was given for saving the life of villagers and a tiger that had strayed outside the forest into a village, during which he was badly mauled by the tiger.
A keen traveler and writer, Dr Bhardwaj is also an avid wildlife photographer whose images have been published in many journals and magazines of fame and he is also the recipient of Best Wildlife Photographer of the year award-2nd prize in the year 2011 by Sanctuary Asia. He is also recipient of Chaturvedi Award for the year 2017 given by FRI, Dehradun for best article on wildlife in oldest forestry journal in India, the Indian Forester. From 2019 to 2022 he has served as Additional PCCF and Nodal officer (FCA), Jaipur. During the period he has also served as Member Secretary, Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board. He has also served as Additional Director General of Forests, Project Tiger and Member Secretary, NTCA, and also Management Authority for CITED India under Ministry of Environment Forests and Climate Change, New Delhi.
